Bonita is a native of Baltimore, Maryland. During her younger years, she had difficulty reading and writing, but always interested in poetry. Due to her shortcomings in reading and writing, Bonita wrote poems and kept them to herself.
A few years after graduating from high school in 1972, she began to work hard on her reading and writing abilities. It was at this point she realized she could continue her dream of writing. It was a few years later when she became seriously interested in singing. This is when she focused her writing on songs, rather than poetry. When she reached the age of thirty, she felt her songs were not worthy for others to enjoy. She stopped writing and threw her collection of poetry and songs away.
One day in 2005, the Lord began giving her new songs. The Lord spoke to Bonita and began to minister to her regarding the songs He had given her. He let her know that whatever He gives, it’s worthy. She knows the songs were designed to touch her and the hearts of others. It was then she began recording them on her tape recorder and later, her cell phone. Songs were given to her in the middle of the night, while driving her vehicle, while exercising, and cooking. No matter the time, she was given a song. She would race home, get up in the middle of the night and stop whatever she was doing to record the songs. Later, if a song was given to her, it stayed in her heart until she had the time to record it. At one point, the Lord gave her so many songs in such a short period of time; it was then she asked the Lord to slow down just a little, please. That’s when Bonita remembered the scripture " . . . open you the windows of heaven and pour you a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive it." (Malachi 3:10)
The year 2008, Bonita sang at the funeral of a relative. A gentleman who had a role on television series filmed in Baltimore approached her. He asked if she sang professionally and if she wrote songs. It was then she was introduced to her Executive Producer, Bruce Goodwin, and began working on her first album. During her journey of recording her first album, Bonita endured many periods of illnesses. This album is five years in the making. All of the songs Bonita has written were inspired by the life she lives, all the adversities she had to encounter and overcame and praises to God. Some important facts about Bonita’s songs are: She is lead writer; she did all the arrangements and sings all parts of the songs.
